Gotta Go with What I Got

(Steve Leach)
2009

I’d like to be a man of vision,
Of confidence—a font of wisdom
Steering straight and true toward a single goal
But I wake up each day instead
With doubts and questions in my head
A wishy-washy, wandering wayward soul
I make my plans, I take my shots
I wring my hands, have second thoughts
I can’t just do it and let it go
I focus my mind and look for a sign
Then wonder, “How the hell will I know?”

Gotta go with what I got
Make the most of whatever I’ve been given
Gotta go with what I got
Satisfied with what’s inside me
Lying back to let it guide me

I’m tired of all these fruitless searches
Tired of all these rootless urges
I’ll take another look at what’s in front of me
And then I’ll keep it in my sights
I won’t look left, I won’t look right
That way I can end up where I wanna be
I’ll make my plans and take my shots
Then rest my hands and rest my thoughts
I’ll just do it and let it go
I’ll focus my mind and won’t look behind
Then wonder, “Why the hell was I so slow?”

Gotta go with what I got
Make the most of whatever I’ve been given
Gotta go with what I got
Satisfied with what’s inside me
Lying back to let it guide me

Gotta go with what I got
Make the most of whatever I’ve been given
Gotta go with what I got
Satisfied with what’s inside me
Lying back to let it guide me
