Steve Leach: Music

Second Floor

SECOND FLOOR

On the second floor looking down
I watch you heading to town
And the breeze blowing through my hair
Reminds me I don’t have to be anywhere
On the second floor of your apartment looking
down

I brought the aloe vera in when it got cold
And put some coffee in my gin
Sorry I slept too late to even say good-bye
If I make it back this way I’ll let you know
I’ll lock the door when I go

On the second floor looking down
It’s quiet except for the sound
Of far-off music in the air
It reminds me of a morning in Jackson Square
On the second floor of someone’s apartment
looking down
And we didn’t think we’d ever touch the
ground

I took some pictures from the closet in the
hall
I’m sure you won’t miss them at all
That was another time you’ve managed to
forget
I haven’t managed yet; you think you know
why
You think I haven’t tried
I’m on the second floor of your apartment
looking down

On the second floor hanging around
I start to feel kind of down
The breeze blowing through my hair
Reminds me I don’t have to be anywhere
On the second floor of your apartment
feeling down
On the second floor of your apartment
looking down…
